When you invest in jewellery pieces you want to make sure you can enjoy wearing them for as long as possible, as such it’s important you know how to look after them. When looking at Sterling Silver there are a few key steps to make sure your jewellery stays on point.
Sterling Silver, alongside any other metal jewellery can tarnish over time although Sterling Silver is pretty robust as it doesn’t react with other chemicals easily. Believe it or not wearing your jewellery everyday will mean that it won’t tarnish so quickly but there are a few things you can do to make sure it keeps that shine.
Sterling Silver tarnishes worst when exposed to salt, chlorine, sulphur, humidity, perspiration, cosmetics, household bleach products and any other strong chemicals. As such we’d recommend that in order to keep your Sterling Silver jewellery like new that you try not to wear it when participating in the following:
- In the sea or swimming pools, showering or in hot tubs.
- When doing household chores (note this is not an excuse to get out of them although it’s worth a try 😉).
- Whilst exercising.
- Whilst applying creams, lotions and other cosmetic products.
Regularly cleaning your jewellery with a cloth and a silver polish will ensure your rings, chains, bracelets and earrings will last the test of time. If keeping some of your signature pieces such as pendants or signet rings for occasional wear make sure these are stored in a dry place.
When cleaning you need to use a soft cloth, avoid harsh scrubbing pads that can scratch your jewellery and rinse with warm water after cleaning. Also, don’t store your jewellery with non-precious metals such as Stainless Steel and avoid contact with rubber bands or any other rubber products.
Just a few tips to make sure you keep your collection of 100% recycled Sterling Silver looking it’s best!
